Counsellors

Students and their whānau have access to counselling support during their time at Papatoetoe High School. The counsellors that make up the team are Chrissy (Head of Guidance), Julien (Jewels), Suchi, and Richard. All of which are members of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) and adhere to the Code of Ethics in their practice. NZAC membership ensures a high standard of care and respect for confidentiality for the student. Where necessary, counsellors will also refer students and their whānau to appropriate external support networks.

Counselling is a service where students gain support for a range of reasons, including anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, relationship issues, school/home issues, anger management, conflict resolution, identity, and problem-solving. We work alongside the student to facilitate self-understanding, and support in navigating the often difficult and confusing stage of adolescence.

Students are also able to access mentoring support from PACT, YouthTown, Check and Connect, and StandUp, who provide additional support for those wanting to leave school, behavioural mentoring, life skills coaching, career pathways, and addictions.
